wednesday's inspiration: do it anyways.

Image via making stuff and doing things

This is where I feel like I am with so much stuff these days.

When Erin Loechner came to teach at Teahouse, one of the first things she said was that to be successful you have to raise your hand and say yes whenever opportunities are presented and then figure things out as you go.

What can you raise your hand and say yes to right now? Bonus points (HUGE bonus points!) if you have no idea what you're doing.

Wednesday's inspiration

You have the talent to accomplish your goals.

Talent. Accomplishment. Goal: attained.

Is that all it takes? Talent?

We ALL have talent. (yes, you...the you who are saying, "oh everyone else has talent, but not me..." yeah, you have talent too.

I think the missing piece is: You have the talent to accomplish your goals, so what are you waiting for?

What are you waiting for?

wednesday's inspiration. psst...it's YOU!

Hi you. Yeah, you. Today I'm talking to you (finger pointing out of your monitor)

I think it's time to have a little fun around here, to do some dream sharing...so let's all jump in for a big dose of wednesday's inspiration.

Here's what we should do: go down to the comments and leave a note about your crazy dream. You know, the one that you keep tucked close into your heart because you aren't sure what other people will think and you don't really want them to tell you how it won't work.

The dream that keeps you going when things get a little hard and when you feel uncertain. The dream you think about when you're falling asleep at night or taking a walk.

Yep, THAT dream! I'll meet you in there with mine too!

(Oh! and if you're feeling shy or protective or slightly fragile about this, that's okay too. You can be anonymous. It's okay.)

Ready...set...go!

wednesday's inspiration: teahouse studio!

I realized that I keep mentioning Teahouse over here, but that it's been a while since I've shared any photos!

That stops today. Enjoy! (and if you want to see it for yourself, come visit!)

My inspiration board:

Our awesome bookcase (LOVE!):

My pink coaching room (with chalkboard wall!):

And, my most recent finished painting (for sale soon):

Seriously, come visit! If you come by, I'll buy you a cookie from the cute boys downstairs! ;)

Happy Wednesday, friends!

wednesday's inspiration: snowshoeing in July

We spent the holiday long weekend with friends camping up in the Sierras. One of the highlights of the trip was our summer showshoeing expedition -- how awesome is it to snowshoe in shorts?

One of my big criteria for choosing hikes is no poision oak. It's not fun for me or Maggie or Tim, so, when given the option I choose higher-elevation hikes. (Fun fact: poison oak doesn't grow above 5,000 feet)

But what happens when there's somuch snow covering those higher elevation hikes? You get snowshoes, that's what.

Simple. Easy Peasy. Done and done.

But of course, there's a bigger question here. A bigger question about life.

How often do you let yourself get waylaid by circumstances? How often do you go against your standard line because the other option seems too hard or too complicated?

How often do you settle for the poison oak hike just because there's a little bit of snow and you don't want to bother renting snowshoes?

How often do you compromise when it isn't necessary?

How often do you think you have no other choice?

wednesday's inspiration: spring is here!

*I've been doing my wednesday's inspiration posts forever now, but have decided to shake things up a bit. Instead of linking to other folks that are inspiring me, I'm going to do my best to take photographs throughout the week of the beauty I see around me every day and share that with you on Wednesdays.

Because when you start looking around, the world if pretty flippin' rad, don't you think?

Wednesday's inspiration: doing what works.

Here's a question for my creative peeps out there: how much pressure do you feel to always be doing something fresh and different?

My answer: all the time. I feel a ton of pressure (all self-inflicted btw) to always be doing something new.

Especially in my painting. Especially since I haven't been making art for very long. Especially since I'm still working on finding my style and building confidence in my work.

Every time I sit down in front of a blank canvas, I think "Ok. That last painting turned out well. Now what am I going to make this time?" And man, the pressure!

But recently I realized this: I don't have to do something different every time. In fact, tons of artists find something that works and do the same thing over and over again. And it's ok. In fact, it's more than okay. It's good, great even!

So I've decided I'm doing what works. And here's the result of my decision:

Turquoise_heart_etsy A Weathered Heart: Original & Print

And can I tell you how proud of myself I am for coming up with that decision? Because, you guys. I LOVE this painting. LOVE. It's just so pretty!

And it works.

And I'm gonna make some more nearly-just-like it.

Because I can.

wednesday's inspiration: my passions

Ah, passion week is fun, isn't it?

I suppose you could say I have a passion for passion. HA!

Fanny_avett bros

I thought that it would be fun today if we all did a public declaration of our passions, however silly you might think them to be. Don't worry, I'll go first!

My Passions, in no particular order:

  • The Avett Brothers!
  • Anthropologie!
  • Tim!
  • Maggie!
  • France!
  • Anything French!
  • Musical Theatre!
  • Food!
  • Spring!
  • Cards!
  • Art!
  • My Family!
  • Pilates!
  • Reading!
  • Writing!
  • My Friends!
  • Laughing!
  • Champagne!
  • Having Fun!
  • Pretty Things!

This list shouldn't really be surprising at all to those of you who regularly read this or know me in real life. These are the things that you could say I live for. The things that keep me going, that make life fun! (Hence the excessive use of exclamation points!)!!!

My challenge to you: What things are you passionate about? What are those things in your life that make you feel most alive? That make living fun? I would love to hear all about this in the comments OR if you're so carried away by the passion, go ahead and write about it on your blog and leave a comment with the link so we can all check it out!

And, if your list is short, that's okay too. Michelle says I'm a Renaissance Soul. I'm okay with that! Oh! And I'm also going to be giving some tips tomorrow on how to find some of your passions, so if you're stumped, be sure to check back then!
