friday's confession: holiday edition

Bad santa

Santa freaks me out.

I know he's supposed to represent innocence and help bring out our inner children while filling the air with holiday joy and love. But I think he's a little scary.

Let's explore:

  1. He's an old man who encourages young children to sit on his lap.

  2. He asks the children if they've been naughty or nice. Naughty? Really?

  3. He the invites said children to whisper in his ear what they want.

  4. "He sees you when you're sleeping. He knows when you're awake." 'Nuff said.

This is a fairly recent thing. When I was young, I dutifully had my photo taken with Santa every year, and nothing bad ever happened. But, I think that as I got older and started thinking more theoretically about Santa, the whole thing became dirty to me.

Mall Santas are the worst. Super creepy!

So, I wish I could say, happy holidays and that I hope Santa is good to you this year. But, I just can't.

But, here's what I can say:

Happy Holidays. I hope that your holiday is filled with warmth, love, and laughter. If you aren't able to be will all the ones you love, I hope they feel the love that is in your heart for them. For those of you that I'm not able to be with -- I'm sending you all the love that I have. You know who you are.
