friday's confession: I think I know you.

I think I know you. I think that I can look through my monitor where I sit typing this and look into who you are as a person.

I think that I know what you are thinking as you read this, as you sit online, looking through social media and blogs, doing your best to stay caught up in this rocky world.

I know that you are someone who is looking for something – something scary, your Big Thing, something that you may not be able to put your finger on just yet. I know that you want More for your life and that you also want more for this world.

I know that to be where you are is scary and can feel paralyzing – how do you move forward when so many things in this world are working against you? Money, obligations, family, friends, shoulds – how do you make your way when everyone around you is saying that where you are is just fine?

I think I know you, because I’ve been where you are. I know that those feelings never go away. I never stop asking myself, “Am I crazy?” but I also never stop the doing.

There might be hurdles or hesitations or skips in my record, but the music keeps playing, all imperfect and scratchy. That’s where the charm is in vinyl – the grooves of the record are like the grooves of our life.

Nothing’s perfect, it never sounds quite the same, but as you sit back and listen to your favorite album, you know that the scratches, imperfections, skips and unknowing all contribute to that little bit of magic that makes it all worth it. They make it real.

Step 1: love your scratches. They've helped create the person you are today.
