life lessons from the America's Cup.
Let me frame this for you non-sailing peeps:
Imagine that it's the World Series. To take the series, you need 9 wins.
The Red Sox (right?) are behind 1-8. Not only have they been out-played, but they were penalized 2 games because the team was caught cheating last summer. Morale is DOWN. The Yankees are crushing them. Big time.
And then - against all odds - they come back to win 8 games in a row. Each game is match point for the other guy. Each game is make it or break it. And they just keep winning.
That's just what Oracle Team USA did over the last few days with the America's Cup. They never gave up.
It's one thing to show up and do well in life when that's your norm. You're on your game and it seems like the victories just keep on coming.
But how do you show up with the decks are stacked against you? Stacked in a bad way?
How do you show up when everyone around you is asking, "How can you go on? Do you think it's really over? Are you still giving it a fighting chance?"
How do you believe in what you're capable of so whole-heartedly that you will keep going no matter what until the bitter end? Until somebody calls it, because until that point, it's still anyone's game?
They never quit. They never gave up. They kept pushing. To their win. And that's what I want you to take to heart.
When you are following your dreams and going for it in life, it will seem like the deck is stacked against you, like nobody understands where you're coming from, that it's all a lot of hard work with little reward.
It will seem like you should just throw in the towel and settle because a mundane life isn't really all that awful, right?
Don't let yourself give up on your dreams. Your belief is the thing that will make it possible for them to come true. Your resolve to hold your course despite the seemingly rough seas (sorry, I had to) will get you through to the other side.
Your resilience to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get back in the game when things don't go well is what will give you the chance to win. To win the whole damn thing.
Keep going, Love. The world is on your side. Even if you don't realize it yet.
